The Specialized High Schools Admissions Test is an exam offered to 8th and 9th graders to determine eligibility for entrance into eight of the nine specialized high schools throughout New York City.
The SHSAT consists of two main sections: English language arts (ELA) and math.
The ELA section is divided into a series of editing questions which test mastery of the conventions of English grammar and a series of reading comprehension passages.
The math section comprises both word problems and computational exercises, with 52 multiple choice questions and five grid-in responses.
